Loyal Player’s Personal Numbers Win $50,000 Top Prize

Riverdale man finds luck in Jan. 9 Bonus Match 5 drawing

A Prince George’s County resident who loves playing all Lottery games has crafted sets of personal numbers to use in different drawings. One lucky combination just won him a $50,000 Bonus Match 5 top prize.

“I play the ones that show up a lot, the numbers that appear often,” said the Riverdale man, who selected the nickname “Fego” to tell the story of his win.

On Jan. 9, “Fego” visited Super Convenience Store in Riverdale and bought a $2 ticket for that night’s Bonus Match 5 drawing. All three lines of the ticket contained sets of his personal numbers.

The Lottery retailer is one of several that the senior citizen visits. “Fego” has played Lottery games since 1980, winning lots of small prizes over the years, but never anything in the five-figure range, he said. Numbers on the first line of his lucky ticket — 5, 11, 18, 26 and 29 — won the game’s top prize.

The winner, who brought his brother with him to Lottery headquarters to claim the prize, said he plans to use the windfall to pay bills. “Fego” also plans to share some of the funds with his brother.

His lucky Lottery retailer also benefits from “Fego’s” big win. For selling a top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket, Super Convenience Store located at 6010 66th Avenue in Riverdale receives a $500 bonus from the Lottery.

This is the second of three Bonus Match 5 top prizes won in 2024. Still waiting to be claimed is a $50,000 prize-winning ticket sold in the Jan. 10 drawing by Wawa #590 in Westminster.
