Prince George’s County man finds win playing Pick 5
An 81-year-old who enjoys playing Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5 is celebrating a big Lottery win. The Prince George’s County resident purchased a $2 Pick 5 ticket, with a $1 straight bet, for the Oct. 7 midday and evening drawings and won $50,000!
The loyal player says that he follows a daily Lottery routine. As part of his day, he’ll stop at a Lottery retailer to play his Pick 3/4/5 games. The day he won $50,000 the octogenarian stopped at AJ Liquors in Brentwood to make his purchases. He put his tickets in his wallet and continued on his way.
The lucky winner didn’t check the tickets until the next day, when he visited a Lottery retailer and requested a printout of winning numbers for Oct. 7. He knew right away that he won the Pick 5 prize after seeing his number, 59817, came out straight in the evening drawing.
“I thought I was having a heart attack,” said the winner. “I know my numbers and that was my Pick 5 number straight.”
The grandfather, who still works as a driver, put his lucky ticket away and later shared the news with his wife. The happy winner said he plans to take a vacation with his wife with his prize and will help his children and grandchildren as needed.
His Lottery retailer is also a winner. For selling a $50,000 winning Pick 5 ticket, AJ Liquors located at 3801 Bladensburg Road in Brentwood will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
