After 40 years of playing the Maryland Lottery, a man from Montgomery Village finally won a big prize – $50,000 playing Bonus Match 5 – and he says he’ll be back again as he has hopes for a bigger haul playing Multi-Match.
“I’m going to be back,” he said Oct. 13 when he claimed his winnings at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
Over his decades of playing, he’s found pleasure in playing and winning the occasional few dollars, “not more than $1,000,” as he put it.
The reason: “It is fun.”
In addition to being fond of Bonus Match 5, he also enjoys Multi-Match, the Maryland-only jackpot game. In addition to matching numbers on a single line like most games, Multi-Match offers the chance to win by combining matches on three different lines.
For his Bonus Match 5 win, he said he checked his ticket using the Maryland Lottery app and confirmed it was a winner, but his wife was not convinced. She suspected it might be a lower-tier prize for a few dollars. But now she believes him.
With his winnings, the Montgomery County man plans to take care of a few home upgrade and repair projects.
He bought the hot ticket at Grape & Grain at 19233 Watkins Mill Road in Montgomery Village, and the retailer receives a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize winning ticket.
