Mother-Daughter Team Take Home Lottery Gold

Western Maryland residents win $50,000 playing Gold Bar Bingo scratch-off

A 52-year-old Allegany County woman and her 21-year-old daughter are living life like it’s golden. They are celebrating a $50,000 top-prize win playing the Gold Bar Bingo 4th Edition scratch-off.

About a week ago, the two were grocery shopping at Martin’s #6297 in Cumberland when they decided to grab some scratch-offs. Among their purchases were two Gold Bar Bingo games. They began playing the instant tickets in the car and finished up once they arrived home. The daughter revealed the $50,000 win on one of the $5 instant tickets, but wanted her mother to confirm it.

“I looked at the ticket and told her, ‘It can’t be, you must have done something wrong,’” said the mom. “I just couldn’t believe it.”

The Cumberland player then called her eldest daughter, whose husband works at a casino, to get advice on how to confirm the win. After visiting the casino, they realized that they had to come to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim the prize.

“They said it was too high to cash there,” said the winning mom. “So, we headed to Baltimore.” The winning duo arrived this week to claim the  prize. The daughter shared with Lottery officials what she’d like to do with her winnings.

“I just want to have some fun and travel,” she said, “just take some day trips around the state like (to) Deep Creek, Ocean City.”

The mom, a Maryland state employee, said she’ll add her winnings to her retirement fund. She plans to retire from her job in December.

The pair purchased the $50,000 winning Gold Bar Bingo scratch-off at Martins #6297 located at 12101 Winchester Road in Cumberland. For selling the top-prize winning instant ticket, the retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.

This is the second top prize won on the game since it went on sale in July 2023. There are six $50,000 top prizes still available along with seven $10,000 and five $5,000 prizes. Additional prizes range from $5 to $1,000.
