Mother’s Day Scratch-off Purchase Gives Mt. Airy Grandma a $50,000 Prize

Lucky Teresa Phillips of Mt. Airy is planning to get a new set of wheels with her $50,000 top-prize scratch-off win.

Buys lucky Ca$h to Go! instant ticket while running errand

Maryland Lottery prizes just kept coming for lucky Teresa Phillips of Mt. Airy. The grandmother of four picked up several Ca$h to Go! scratch-offs on Mother’s Day while buying toys for future gifts. In return, she happily received a $50,000 gift of her own from Lady Luck on one of her $5 tickets.

Her winning story began when Teresa spotted some toys at a great price that would be perfect to give her grandchildren at Christmas. She didn’t buy the toys then, but decided to go back and purchase them on Mother’s Day morning. The 68-year-old also stopped at Twin Arch Spirits in Mt. Airy to pick up a few Ca$h to Go! scratch-offs to enjoy. An avid player, she discovered her exciting win several games into her batch of tickets.

“I called everyone,” she said, and has continued to share news of her good fortune. This isn’t even the first big Lottery prize of 2022 for Teresa. She also won Contestant of the Game honors through the My Lottery Rewards FAST PLAY Home Run Riches Bases Loaded promotion. Those selected win $500 and another $500 for every home run hit by the Orioles in the winner’s designated game. Sadly, the O’s didn’t hit any homers during her designated game on May 21, but Teresa hit a home run of her own. “The next day, I won $500 on a $5 scratch-off,” she said.

Her big $50,000 prize is going toward a new car, Teresa said, which is a purchase she delayed when the COVID-19 pandemic began. One of her three adult children is hunting for the right vehicle to keep his mom on the go. Although she retired last week from a 22-year post as manager of two Long & Foster Real Estate offices, Teresa has kept her realtor’s license current so she can help prospective homebuyers hunt for houses.

Her lucky Lottery retailer can also celebrate. Twin Arch Spirits located at 1001 Twin Arch Road #11 in Carroll County earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
