A FAST PLAY fan predicted last year that if he were to win a big Lottery prize, 2024 would be the year. That prediction came true earlier this month, thanks to his $68,281 progressive jackpot-winning FAST PLAY SLINGO ticket.
“Mr. Money Monk,” as the anonymous winner dubbed himself for publicity purposes, bought his lucky $3 ticket at Wegmans in Columbia on a Tuesday. The Howard County man didn’t check it for a win until that Thursday. The loyal player was visiting a nearby Shell station that day and scanned the SLINGO ticket along with some other draw tickets to check for prizes. Needless to say, one of those scanned tickets showed a message that sent him to Lottery headquarters.
Prior to this win, “Mr. Money Monk” said his biggest prize was free chicken for a year from a popular food chain. This exciting win, he said, reflects more than just a change to his finances. He believes it symbolizes the changes that he has undergone since 2019, which is the year when his beloved dog died and he went into a deep depression.
In 2023, “Mr. Money Monk” decided to make some major life changes. He has focused on his health and fitness, which he is documenting through a daily-diet video showing his healing journey. In addition, he increased his Lottery play a bit to boost his chances of winning a big prize.
The happy man arrived at Lottery headquarters to claim his prize carrying a costume monk’s robe to don for his publicity photo. “Mr. Money Monk” said the robe represents his monk-like focus and dedication to overcoming adversity. He plans to put his new fortune into his savings account and will use the funds to make some investments.
His lucky Lottery retailer, which is located at 8855 McGaw Road in Columbia, will collect a $682 Lottery bonus for selling a progressive jackpot-winning SLINGO ticket. The SLINGO game went on sale in 2023 with 15 progressive jackpot prizes; 11 remain. The progressive jackpot starts at $14,000 and increases with the sale of each ticket until a progressive jackpot-winning ticket is sold.
