Nephew’s Racetrax Tips Send Uncle to Winner’s Circle with $61,690 Prize

Bets Superfecta Wheel option with long-odds horses

Spending time with his nephew at a District Heights Lottery retailer paid off to the tune of $61,690 earlier this month for a Hyattsville man. Racetrax isn’t the winner’s go-to game but his nephew is such a fan the winner asked for tips before trying his luck.

“I was just hanging out with him,” the Prince George’s County man said. “I’m not a big gambler. He said, ‘Do the wheel.’ He taught me how to play.”

The novice, who prefers scratch-offs, placed a $1 Superfecta Wheel bet for one race with the 9, 10, 11 and 1 horses. He bet the 9, 10 or 11 horse would come in first place; the 9, 10 or 11 horse in second place; the same combination for third place with the number one horse coming in fourth. The uncle wasn’t even paying attention when his horses won, galloping across the finish line in 11, 9, 10 and 1 order!

He checked his $6 ticket later and was delighted. “I was excited, but I said, ‘It’s nothing but bill money.’” Retired from his job at a local government, the winner plans to pay bills with his prize and use some funds for golfing and bowling. This is his biggest win ever, topping a $10,000 scratch-off prize.

Also a winner is the Lottery retailer. Lucky Lottery located at 6029 Marlboro Pike in District Heights will earn a $616.90 Lottery bonus for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.
