Nurse Credits Lucky Numbers for Second Bonus Match 5 Win

Finds latest $50,000 top-prize win in Aug. 16 drawing

A Montgomery County man is extremely grateful today after visiting Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim a $50,000 Bonus Match 5 top prize. The anonymous winner, who chose the alias “Mr. Happy” to tell the story of his big win, relied on his lucky numbers to score the new prize.

The 58-year-old nurse is a Bonus Match 5 fan and plays often. This is his second time winning after using the same sets of lucky numbers. On Aug. 16, “Mr. Happy” was on a break at work and decided to visit State Line Market. He bought a Bonus Match 5 ticket for that night’s drawing along with snacks and coffee. Later that evening, while arriving home, the married father and grandfather checked his $6 ticket and discovered a top-prize win of $50,000.

“I scanned the ticket on the Lottery app before heading in the house,” he said. “When it read ‘See Lottery,’ I knew I won big because that’s what it read the last time I won.”

The Takoma Park resident claimed his $50,000 prize this week. When asked how he will spend his windfall, “Mr. Happy” smiled and said he will pay for his sons’ tuition and put the rest toward his home mortgage and bills.

“Mr. Happy” bought his winning ticket from State Line Market located at 7817 Eastern Avenue Northwest in Silver Spring. For selling the top-prize winning ticket, the Montgomery County retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery. This is the 23rd top-prize winning ticket sold in the game this year.
