Pizza & Tacos Stop Leads to $50,000 Powerball Win for Hyattsville Man

Prince George’s County resident plans to use prize to start a business

A Prince George’s County man and his family had a hankering for pizza and tacos, so they visited their local 7-Eleven. The Lottery player came home with dinner and a $50,000-winning Powerball ticket in the Sept. 2 drawing.

The 66-year-old is a loyal Powerball player, purchasing tickets for the game’s three drawings each week. Later that week, he revisited 7-Eleven #37918 at 7501 Landover Road in Hyattsville to buy food and purchase another Powerball ticket. The Hyattsville resident scanned his ticket from the Sept. 2 drawing at the retailer and learned he was a third-tier winner.

“I was not surprised when I won,” said the happy construction worker, smiling as he added that he has played for a long time hoping for a big prize. He has dreamed of purchasing a work truck to start his own company and said this win will make that dream possible.

“I have been waiting for this and planning for this for years,” he said, expressing gratitude for his new opportunity.

The next chance for Powerball jackpot chasers to join in on the fun comes Friday night. The Sept. 9 drawing will have an estimated jackpot annuity of $500 million and an estimated cash option of $242.4 million.
