A Prince George’s County woman can’t believe her luck after winning $50,000 on two separate Pick 5 tickets bringing her total winnings to $100,000. It was late August when she was led to play her special numbers, and they came out straight in the Aug. 28 evening drawing.
The player was out and about that day, running errands with her sister. As the day was coming to a close, she realized she had not played her numbers for the evening drawing, so the sisters stopped at Ardwick Liquors in Landover where she purchased Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5 tickets, two of each, all straight $1 bets.
They were headed home when the sister became thirsty and they stopped again for a soda. By this time, the Maryland Lottery’s evening drawing had occurred. While waiting in the car for her sister to get something to quench her thirst, the Bowie player pulled out her phone and checked the numbers. She said Pick 3 and Pick 4 were close, but not winners.
But when she saw the Pick 5 numbers, she knew she had hit.
“I could not believe it when I saw my numbers,” she said Sept. 14 when she claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “I calmed down and got my tickets out of my purse, and, sure enough, I had winning tickets!”
Realizing she had two winning tickets, worth $50,000 a piece, the Bowie resident said she just screamed. When her sister came out of the store, the excited the winner said, “You won’t believe it, but I just hit the 5-digit straight!”
The winner said she plans to use some of the $100,000 in winnings on to pay some bills and make some home repairs.
Ardwick Liquors at 8307 Ardwick-Ardmore Road in Landover receives a bonus of $500 each for the two tickets, for a total of $1,000.
