Prize helps Annapolis dad with bills, kid’s college costs
He’s mainly a puzzle guy, so when the Anne Arundel County resident plays the Maryland Lottery, he likes to buy puzzle-style instant tickets. The Annapolis man now likes them even better after claiming a $50,000 top prize on May 16 on the $5 Deluxe Crossword 6th Edition game.
“I like crossword and bingo games,” he said.
The loyal player matched four words each on two crossword puzzles to win. His lucky words: ask, arch, old, hollow, root, trip, worthy and trophy.
An on-call plumber, the 53-year-old said he also enjoys playing Racetrax, a game whose complex betting structure gives it a game-like feel. His wife, meanwhile, buys the occasional Mega Millions and Powerball ticket.
His plans for the $50,000 windfall are simple: “Paying bills.” The scratch-off fan added, “I’ve got a kid in college. It definitely helps.”
Asked if he would buy more Lottery games, the happy dad said, “I probably will, you know, now that I’ve won.” Although the windfall is great, our winner said he is happy with any size prize.
