Racetrax Novice Wins $77,253 with Superfecta Bonus Wager

A convenience store visit on the way to the dentist led to a $77,253 Racetrax win for this novice.

Decision to try the game in hopes of changing her luck paid off

A West Baltimore grandmother who is a loyal Lottery player hadn’t come up with a win recently playing her regular games so she decided to give Racetrax a try.

“This is my first time playing Racetrax and it won’t be the last, I can tell you that,” said the happy winner, who claimed a $77,253 prize on a wager she placed last week. The lucky lady was on her way to the dentist that day and stopped at Royal Farms #014 located at 4384 Hollins Ferry Road in Baltimore to buy coffee and Lottery tickets.

Thank goodness she had the dentist appointment, agreed “Baby 1 & Baby 2,” as the wife and husband dubbed themselves to tell the story of their big win. They often address each other as “Baby,” they explained.

The convenience store was near her dental appointment, putting “Baby 1” in the right place at the right time to buy her 10-draw ticket. She placed a Superfecta wager, with the Bonus feature added, on the 10, 9, 7 and 1 horses to cross the finish line in that order. They did so in the fifth of her 10 races and the Bonus tripled her prize.

She left the store without waiting to see the results because “Baby 1 & Baby 2” have a system. She buys Lottery tickets and when “Baby 2” gets home from his late-night shift, he scans them with the Lottery app on his phone. “Baby 1,” who works a day shift as a transit employee, was sound asleep around 2 a.m. when “Baby 2” scanned the lucky Racetrax ticket along with some other games.

“I didn’t believe it,” said “Baby 2.” “I went through scanning it about 100 times to be sure.”

He took a photo of the winning message on his phone and texted the image to her. Not hearing any reaction, “Baby 2” went upstairs and whispered, “Baby, you awake?” She woke up and at first doubted his good news. She became convinced after seeing the photo he texted to her phone. Neither of them slept a wink the rest of the night because of their excitement.

The parents of five adult children and grandparents of 11 are keeping their Lottery luck a secret. They decided during that long night of conversation to put the funds toward a winter cruise vacation and to pay bills.

The lucky Royal Farms store can celebrate, too. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more, the store earns a bonus from the Lottery equaling 1% of the prize, or $772.53.
