Retired Postal Worker Sits in Awe of His Largest Lottery Win

Upper Marlboro man claims $50,000 prize on Pick 5 bet

A retired postal worker enjoys playing Pick 5 several times a week. When he plays, he uses the last five digits of his wife’s social security number. These same numbers have come out twice before, which is why the lucky winner was confident that they would be the winning numbers once again. His prediction came true, and he walked away with a $50,000 prize.

The 76-year-old winner bought his ticket at Meadows Market & Restaurant located at 9400 Marlboro Pike in Upper Marlboro. He visited the store on a Wednesday afternoon and picked up tickets for the next four drawings taking place on Thursday and Friday. On Friday afternoon, he checked the Lottery website and realized that his numbers were selected. Upon discovery, he immediately called his wife to inform her and also to ask her to go home as soon as possible to check the ticket.

The winner’s wife checked the ticket and then also scanned the ticket using the Maryland Lottery app. “We just sat in awe,” the happy couple said upon their awesome discovery. “I was numb the rest of the day, I couldn’t even sleep that night,” he added.

Although once retired, he’s currently working a different job and is set to retire again at the end of this year. Paying off bills and savings have taken top priority for his Lottery winnings.

Meadows Market & Restaurant will receive a $500 bonus for its role in selling a $50,000 Pick 5 top prize.
