A Rhodesdale man is celebrating a $100,000 win on the $1,000,000 Crossword scratch-off game.
The longtime beer and wine salesman has spent time pursuing his passion for DJing, which he does his spare time. He has also built strong relationships with his customers throughout his career.
A casual Lottery player, he said he occasionally enjoys playing Keno, but he enjoyed his biggest win previously when he landed a $10,000 scratch-off prize in 2005.
All that changed recently when he was visiting one of his customers, T’s Market, located at 400 North Salisbury Boulevard in Salisbury. While he was there, he decided to purchase a $25 $1,000,000 Crossword scratch-off.
His first ticket was a non-winner, so the Dorchester County resident decided to try his luck again.
He immediately scanned the second ticket after making his purchase and discovered that he had won $100,000.
The winner went home to tell his wife the good news.
“She grabbed me around the neck and cried,” the winner recalled Aug. 12 when he claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
The win came at an especially good time for the couple, who recently started a home improvement project. They plan to use some of the winnings to complete the project and put a portion in savings.
The $1,000,000 Crossword scratch-off is the Maryland Lottery’s first $25 scratch-off game. The game launched in February 2026 with four $1 million top prizes, two of which remain unclaimed, along with six more $100,000 prizes, and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $25 to $20,000.
T’s Market will receive $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
