Washington D.C. Caregiver Claims $100,000 Scratch Prize

A District woman told Lottery officials that she’s been playing Maryland Lottery scratch-off games for years and, while having found luck many times, she’d never won like she did on a Saturday in late July. The $100,000 top prize she uncovered scratching a Queen of Hearts instant ticket that night has left her in shock, in disbelief and deep gratitude – all at the same time.

“Queen of Hearts was in the #8 container on the store’s counter,” she said. “Any time an 8 is involved, I’ve been pretty lucky.” Never more so than on this occasion.

When she scratched her ticket at home later that evening, she was certain that what she was seeing couldn’t be true.

“I saw the $100,000 match almost right away, and I just knew that it couldn’t be real. There was no way I was that lucky.” Happily, for the DC resident it was real and she was that lucky.

Queen of Hearts is a $10 game that arrived on store shelves in September 2025 with seven $100,000 prizes. Four still remain unclaimed along with more than 400,000 prizes ranging from $10 to $3,000.

This winning Queen of Hearts ticket was purchased from Frank’s Tavern at 1703 Kenilworth Avenue in Capitol Heights. The Prince George’s County business received a $1,000 bonus for selling the top-prize winner.
