Riverdale Player Planning a Party after $50,000 Scratch-off Win

A celebratory cookout with her family is in the works for a Maryland Lottery player from Riverdale who won a $50,000 top prize playing the Lucky Riches scratch-off game.

“I like to play! I want to hit the Powerball,” she said on April 5 when she claimed her prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

Over her years of playing, she has picked up a few wins here and there, but nothing spectacular. “Twenty, tens, $15, sometimes a hundred,” she said. The Prince George’s County resident bought her $5 instant ticket at Riverdale BP, located at 5500 Kenilworth Avenue in Riverdale. For selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, the shop receives a bonus of $500 from the Lottery. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.

The winner said she plans to keep on playing, adding, “I like scratch-offs!”

The Lucky Riches instant ticket went on sale on Feb. 20 and players have won four of the eight top prizes. In addition, eight of 14 $5,000 prizes are unclaimed along with more than 780,000 others ranging from $5 to $1,000.
