Self-Published Author Flips the Script with Lottery Win

Takoma Park man claims $20,000 top prize on Ravens X2 scratch-off

“I felt it!” A Prince George’s County writer’s premonition that his lucky Lottery payday was on the way came true when he won a $20,000 top prize on a Ravens X2 scratch-off.

The 72-year-old had visited Lucky Beer & Wine in Takoma Park, where he frequently buys Lottery games, when Lottery luck came to call. The Takoma Park resident bought a $2 Ravens X2 instant ticket, scratched it off while in the store and thought he won $20. However, when he went to cash in his winning scratch-off, the store clerk scanned it and whispered to him, “Hey! Shhh, keep it cool, man! You won $20,000!”

The loyal scratch-off player recalls that the clerk added, “You should probably go home!” To this, the unfazed winner replied, “OK!”

When asked of his plans for his $20,000 prize, the writer said he would pay off debts and continue to write and self-publish books.

Lucky Beer & Wine located 6863 New Hampshire Avenue will receive a $200 bonus from the Lottery for its role in selling a top-prize winning $20,000 scratch-off.
