Essex woman claims first top prize on Big Money instant ticket

“I never thought I would win,” said a semi-retired Baltimore County woman who only plays Lottery games during visits to the local grocery store. After leaving Food Lion in Baltimore with a $50,000 prize from a Big Money scratch-off, her thoughts about winning have drastically changed.

The 67-year-old visited Food Lion #1653 located at 1565 Hyde Park Road in Baltimore. She occasionally plays jackpot games, but on that day, the $5 Big Money instant ticket drew her attention.

The shock of her win set in when she checked her instant ticket at home later that day. Upon learning of her newfound fortune, the Essex resident immediately shared the news with family members and friends. She plans to invest some of her winnings and go on vacation cruises as she and her family loves to do.

Her lucky Lottery retailer, Food Lion #1653, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for its role in selling a top-prize winning scratch-off worth $50,000. The Big Money instant ticket arrived in stores in March and this is the first $50,000 top prize claimed.
