Texan Finds His Fortune in Maryland with $2 Million Lottery Win

Needing a break from long-hauling last month, a truck driver stopped in Washington County for a visit with friends. When it came time to hit the road, his last stop before heading off into the sunset was Lottery headquarters. He couldn’t very well go home without the $2 million he won scratching an Ace of Spades ticket, could he?

The Texas native told Lottery officials Feb. 18 that he buys tickets back home and schedules lottery stops in most states his work takes him around the country. The big win he found in Hagerstown wasn’t a planned purchase, though.

“I was grocery shopping and the lottery was definitely not on my list,” he said. “But then I saw the vending machine.” He picked out the $30 Ace of Spades instant game as a treat for himself he said, adding, “I’ve had good luck with $10 scratch-offs, but because it was sort of a spontaneous thing (coming across a lottery machine), I decided to splurge.”

It was in his vehicle a few minutes later when he realized how wise that decision had been.

“I scratched the first number and it was a $400 match. I couldn’t believe it.” It turns out that the fun had only just begun.

“I scratched the second number – $5,000. The third number – $400.”

And so on, and so on. It turned out that every number on his ticket was a match. Every one! And when he scratched the multiplier he found “200X.” All of those matches and that multiplier added up to the game’s $2 million top prize.

Ace of Spades debuted in September 2025 with three top prizes. This Hagerstown win is the game’s first. Two $2 million winners remain unclaimed. Two $50,000 second-tier winners are also still in circulation.

The happy trucker says he will share his winnings with his family. And be assured, when next in Hagerstown, he is sure to be stopping by the Martin’s grocery store at 1729 Dual Highway. The business receives a $2,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize-winning ticket.
