Each score $62,454.30 with Superfecta Box bets
A pair of Racetrax players visited Maryland Lottery headquarters last week to claim the exact same prize — $62,454.30 — on the same race on tickets they bought at the same retailer.
On March 21, the two placed Superfecta Box bets that the 9, 10, 11 and 12 horses would cross the finish line in the top four spots. The woman placed a 10-cent bet for 20 races while the man placed a 10-cent bet for 18 races. Their horses brought home the big prize in the 11th race.
“You would think I’d be jumping up and down and dancing around,” said the woman, an Anne Arundel County resident and avid Racetrax player. “I feel humbled and thankful.”
She has several plans for her prize, including paying off the loan on her vehicle, paying bills, “looking out for family” members and boosting her savings account. Her favorite bets are the Superfecta Box and the Quinella, she said.
She discovered her win at home. After checking the race outcomes and seeing Lottery luck had come her way, she tucked the lucky ticket in her wallet and made the appointment at Lottery headquarters to claim her prize. The other Racetrax winner opted to remain anonymous.
They bought their tickets at Chesapeake Liquors located at 6720 Governor Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie. For its role in selling two winning Racetrax tickets that won $10,000 or more, Chesapeake Liquors will receive two bonuses of $624.54 from the Lottery — equal to 1% of each prize.
