A Lottery enthusiast from Waldorf has been buying a few tickets – mainly Powerball tickets – fairly regularly for many years. He hadn’t won anything worth talking about until May 23 when he matched four of the first five balls plus the red Powerball for a $50,000 win.
He held onto the winning ticket until July 27 when his daughter drove him to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore so he could claim his windfall.
His daughter said he buys a few tickets a week because he enjoys thinking about the prospect of winning. The winner had been watching an episode of My Lottery Dream Home with family members when they reminded him to get his tickets for the Powerball drawing.
The winner’s motivation for playing?
“Just for fun, and looking to get lucky,” he said.
And the big win hasn’t changed that outlook. He plans to continue playing in hopes of winning again.
Meanwhile, he’s got no particular plan for his $50,000 windfall aside from socking it away and making a decision after putting plenty of thought into it.
He bought the third-tier winning Powerball ticket May 22 at Korner Liquors at 3120 Old Washington Road in Waldorf. The Powerball jackpot continues to roll with an estimated annuity value of $663 million for the July 29 drawing, and a one-time cash option of $290.4 million.
