A Bel Air woman who has been playing the Maryland Lottery for more than a decade is celebrating an unexpected $50,000 win after scratching a ticket she purchased with the last $30 in her lottery budget.
She told Lottery officials she enjoys playing scratch-offs and Multi-Match, always hoping for a win that could help secure her financial future. While $50,000 isn’t quite enough to retire, the Bel Air resident said she is “overjoyed” to call herself a winner.
On the day of her big win, the winner stopped at Wawa and headed straight for the Lottery kiosk. She bought a Multi-Match ticket first and, with $30 remaining in her lottery allotment, decided to try her luck on a $30 200X the Cash scratch-off.
After purchasing the ticket, she went out to her car and began scratching. Once she realized she won, she decided to head home and show her partner, who confirmed the win.
Since discovering her win, she has kept a low profile and made sure her ticket was stored safely. She has also spent time thinking about how to make the most of her unexpected windfall.
Although she initially hoped for a big enough prize to completely secure her financial future, she plans to be smart with her $50,000. Her first priorities are paying off debts and bills, followed by treating herself to a vacation.
