“Weekend Player” Wins $50,000 Scratch-off Prize

A Montgomery County man works hard during the workweek, operating heavy equipment all day long. His weekends, however, are for fun. This is when he turns his attention to his favorite hobby – Maryland Lottery scratch-offs.

On July 5, he purchased a Cash to Go ticket and scratched his way to a $50,000 top prize.

“I really can’t believe this happened. I shouldn’t be here,” the Silver Spring resident said. He told Lottery officials he has won $50,000 before, almost a decade ago. “The odds against it happening once are so huge, but for it to happen again?”

Our winner purchased his lucky ticket from a 7-Eleven in Takoma Park, specifically selecting Cash to Go because he’s had good luck with the $5 game in the recent past. When he finished scratching the ticket, he sat motionless for several minutes.

“I knew it was real right away, but I just couldn’t understand how it was possible.”

Cash to Go tickets reached retailers’ shelves in November 2024. The game debuted with seven $50,000 top prizes, six of which have now been claimed. There are four $5,000 second-tier winners still in circulation among the more than 285,000 cash prizes the game still has to offer.

The 7-Eleven at 900 Merrimac Avenue will receive a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize winning ticket.
