Worcester County Retiree Lands $50,000 Scratch-off Win

Claims fourth top prize on Bonus Cash Doubler game

An Eastern Shore resident caught a big break when playing his favorite Lottery scratch-off game. The recently retired man discovered the fourth $50,000 top prize in the Bonus Cash Doubler scratch-off.

The 69-year-old anonymous player selected the nickname “Governor” to share the story of his Lottery luck. “Governor” plays Lottery games weekly, choosing a variety of scratch-offs and Keno tickets.

One day, he and his wife went to his favorite convenient store, Smith’s Market in Showell, to buy snacks and juice. “Governor” also bought some Lottery tickets and scratched them off before leaving the store. His first two tickets scanned as non-winners. The third instant ticket, a $5 Bonus Cash Doubler game, revealed a $50,000 prize.

Initially, the Salisbury area resident recalls being in a “state of shock and disbelief” after revealing the prize. In fact, he experienced such shock it made him shake. “Governor” told Lottery officials that he then screamed, “What? Is this real?” He was still feeling overwhelmed and shocked when he claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters this week. “It’s not every day that you win big like this.”

Asked what he plans to do with his winnings, the loyal player said he will spoil himself because he “can’t take the money with him.” He also wants to do something nice for his wife.

“Governor” isn’t alone in enjoying his Lottery luck. Smith’s Market located at 11740 Old Worcester Highway in Showell will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for its role in selling a top-prize winning scratch-off worth $50,000.

The Bonus Cash Doubler instant ticket went on sale on July 17 with eight top prizes. There are still four top prizes remaining along with more than 695,000 others ranging from $5 to $5,000.
