Persistence gave a retired postal worker from Germantown a $50,000 payday when the ZIP code for an out-of-state town was the Pick 5 combination drawn on Feb. 12. The community is home to some members of the winner’s family and she has been playing it for the past several years.
She started playing the Lottery after she retired, and in recent years has focused on that ZIP code. She also plays the combination boxed, and her best previous win was a healthy $5,000 score.
“It all goes into an account and then the house,” she said April 28 when she claimed her prize with her grandson and right-hand man at her side.
“She does the barking and I do the working,” he said, prompting a round of laughter.
In addition to house upgrades and saving, proceeds from her $50,000 win will also pay for a trip she plans to take to visit a close friend.
Will she keep on playing after the big win?
“Of course! The same numbers!” she said.
She bought the winning ticket at Town Center Sunoco at 19738 Germantown Road in Germantown, which receives a bonus of $500.
