Eastern Shore woman wins top prize on Power Cash scratch-off

Lady Luck wasn’t playing an April Fool’s Day prank on Jukira Cordell of Pocomoke City, who is $50,000 richer after purchasing several Power Cash scratch-offs. While she had no luck initially, the Eastern Shore winner explained that she had a good feeling before she scratched off the last instant ticket in the bunch.

“My hand started to itch,” Jukira said.

Her instincts were correct as she won a $50,000 top prize on the $5 scratch-off. The Worcester County woman found an “autowin” symbol with a prize of $50,000 in the last row of the game’s play area. She scanned the instant ticket at the store for confirmation.

“Since it was April 1st, I thought they were playing games,” Jukira said, laughing.

The 21-year-old credits her win to a 2011 lucky penny that she uses to play scratch-offs. The fast food worker plans to put her prize in the bank.

Jukira bought her winning instant ticket at Duck In located at 607 Lynnhaven Drive in Pocomoke City. The Worcester County retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize winning scratch-off.

This is the third top-prize winner on Power Cash. The game’s winning tickets were sold from Western Maryland (Garrett County), to central Maryland (Pasadena) and now the Eastern Shore. There are still five prizes of $50,000 unclaimed along with others ranging from $5 to $5,000.
