“Big Holiday Winner” is putting his small fortune in the bank for a rainy day after winning $30,000 playing the $3 Candy Cane Cash scratch-off.
A Maryland man who is transitioning from his home state to Pennsylvania is celebrating an early holiday gift. He recently claimed the second $30,000 top prize on the $3 Candy Cane Cash scratch-off and he couldn’t be jollier!
“Big Holiday Winner,” a name he is using for publicity purposes, was getting groceries at the Giant in Odenton last week when he decided to grab a couple of Mega Millions and Powerball tickets because the jackpots were high. He also decided on a Candy Cane Cash scratch-off because he had $3 extra. That’s the purchase giving him the $30,000 win.
“Scratch-offs weren’t really on my mind,” said “Big Holiday Winner,” “But, when I saw the prize I won, I was so glad I picked it up.”
The player said he scanned the barcode revealing the $30,000 win.
“I scanned it several times before taking it to the cashier to check,” he said. “She was just as surprised as me telling me it was a $30,000 winner.”
“Big Holiday Winner” put his tickets away and called his wife sharing the good news.
“Of course, she thought I was lying,” he chuckled.
The big winner, who is retired from the military, is already settled in Pennsylvania and is in the final steps of selling his Maryland home. He said on Nov. 14 when he claimed the prize that he’s putting his winnings into savings, where it will remain until he needs it.
The Giant Store at 1155 Annapolis Road in Odenton receives a $300 bonus from the Lottery for selling the $30,000 top-prize scratch-off game.
Candy Cane Cash went on sale in October with six $30,000 top-prizes, of which three remain unclaimed. There are also hundreds of thousands lower tier prizes ranging from $3 to $500 still available on the game.
