“Wawa Winner,” of Middle River, plans to switch from playing scratch-offs to draw games after winning a $50,000 prize on the 200X the Cash scratch-off.
A Middle River man got a meatball sub with a side of $50,000 when he discovered his win on a 200X the Cash scratch-off during his lunch break.
“Wawa Winner,” as he is calling himself for purposes of telling his tale of winning, purchased the ticket from a vending machine at the Wawa store at 7501 Pulaski Highway in Rosedale. He stops there and plays scratch-offs several times a week.
He realized he had won before heading back to work, and could hardly believe what he was seeing.
“I kept saying, ‘Is this real?’” he said Feb. 25 when he claimed his winnings at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
Before buying the ticket, the winner said he thought of his late grandmother, who enjoyed playing scratch-offs. He had $30 in cash left in his pocket, and that’s what he used to buy the $30 scratch-off. He recalls having a strong feeling about the ticket.
“I knew it was coming,” he said.
The winner said he didn’t get much sleep before claiming his prize. Accompanied by his grandfather, he shared that he plans to use the winnings to help his family.
This marks his first major Lottery win. In the past, he said, his prizes topped out at a few hundred dollars. While he plans to take a break from scratch-offs, he may try his luck with draw games such as Mega Millions.
His advice to other players? “Just go with your gut,” he said.
The 200X the Cash scratch-off launched in December 2025 with five $2 million top prizes. Four top prizes remain unclaimed. “Wawa Winner’s” prize came at the second-tier $50,000 level, of which four remain unclaimed.
