Harford County Man in Disbelief After $50,000 Scratch-off Win

A retired Havre de Grace man stopped for a scratch-off last week, he told Lottery officials on March 27, something that he does just about every week. What doesn’t happen every week, though, is the ticket – a $5,000,000 Fortune game in this instance – turning into a $50,000 winner.

“I just stared at the scanner,” the U.S. Army veteran explained, referring to the store’s Lottery device. “I didn’t believe it, didn’t believe what I was seeing. Still don’t.”

The Harford County resident plays the Lottery a few times a month, he told us, and almost always instant games. “Maybe a Powerball or Mega ticket when the jackpot gets really big, but usually just scratch-offs.” He’s stuck with his favorite for two reasons. “I feel like I win with them a lot, and I can scan them right away.”

When we asked why $5,000,000 Fortune, a $50 game, was his choice last week, he explained that he buys a $30 or $50 ticket once a month.

EZ Quick Food at 801 Revolution Street in Havre de Grace supplied his $50,000 winner. “I was thirsty that day and stopped at the first store I saw to get a soda. I never would have found this ticket if I hadn’t really wanted that Coke.”

$5,000,000 Fortune arrived on retailers’ shelves in February 2025 with three top prizes. One remains in circulation, along with four $100,000 winners and four more of the $50,000 prizes that had our lucky Harford County player doubting his vision.
