A former Baltimore City police officer from Kingsville has retired his badge and joined the ranks of millionaires. He bought five Powerball quick pick combinations for the drawing on Aug. 10, matched all of the first five white balls drawn, but not the red Powerball, for a $1 million win.
The winner, a fairly regular player, usually buys his Lottery tickets at the Walmart in Fallston. But when he was shopping there on Aug. 9, he forgot and ended up going to the nearby Harvest Fare store at 2315 Belair Road in Fallston.
He was sitting in his car the next day when he checked his ticket. Initially he didn’t see all of the numbers and thus thought he had won a lesser prize. But then he showed the ticket to his daughter and she not only confirmed that he had a win, but also she informed him that he in fact had a $1 million winner. He was happily shocked to learn he’d won significantly more than he initially thought.
The winner is going to use his winnings to pay off bills, including a recently purchased recreational vehicle. He also plans to take a trip to Florida for the holidays.
Although retired, he does still work part-time just to stay active. When he’s not working or playing the Lottery, he enjoys diamond-dot painting.
Harvest Fare will receive a $2,500 bonus for being the retailer that sold a $1 million second-tier winning Powerball ticket.
