Money Rush game delivers lunch-time surprise
An Eastern Shore man told Lottery officials that he has a couple of people to thank for the winning ticket that brought him to Lottery headquarters on April 30. He described its $50,000 prize – by far the most money he has ever won – as “the craziest thing that has happened to me.”
His story began as he was leaving his house last week to get some lunch. “My dad told me to get a scratch-off ticket while I was out,” he said. His father, the Chestertown resident continued, is an avid Lottery player. He, though, not so much. “It rarely occurs to me to buy a ticket when I’m at stores that sell them so I never end up getting one.”
This day was different, however, thanks to his dad’s suggestion. After picking out a sandwich, chips and drink from the selection at Suds-N-Soda, he perused the store’s instant ticket selection. “I didn’t know what to play. When I asked the guy at the counter which ticket had been winning for people, he pointed to Money Rush. That’s what I went with.”
Money Rush is a $10 ticket that went on sale in July 2024. Five of the game’s $100,000 top prizes remain unclaimed. There were four $50,000 second-tier prizes available before our winner’s father and that helpful clerk put in their two cents. Now there are three.
“I almost screamed when I saw the $50,000 match. I had to cover my mouth with my hand.” The restaurant employee scratched his big winner at home with his family. While he sat in stunned silence, everyone else got the celebration going. “I don’t think I’d even started breathing yet when they started slapping me on the back and hugging me.”
If you find yourself in Chestertown any time soon, stop in at Suds-N-Soda and ask for some Lottery advice. Lightning might just strike twice. The Lottery retailer is located at 1014 Washington Avenue.
