Baltimore Woman Pads Retirement Fund with Lucky Lottery Win

Claims $50,000 top prize on Bonus Match 5 ticket

She was already set to retire next year but now, retirement looks a little cozier for a Baltimore woman who won $50,000 playing Bonus Match 5.

The 64-year-old Baltimore resident has her husband to thank for being in the right place at the right time to buy her lucky $6 ticket in the Sept. 16 drawing. She normally gives her husband money to buy her Lottery games and then he randomly selects a place to buy the tickets. This time, he visited Harris Teeter #376 located at 1801 Whetstone Way in Baltimore.

The winner was watching television one night while her husband was in another room, checking Lottery results. He called her into the other room to share news of her $50,000 top-prize win. “I was so excited that I had to go and lay down once I found out we’d won,” she said.

After 36 years of employment with the state of Maryland, the lucky winner was already set for retirement. This win provides her with an extra cushion. In addition to putting her prize into retirement savings, the loyal player plans to use some of the funds to pay off bills and take a small vacation.

Her lucky Baltimore City retailer, Harris Teeter #376, will receive a $500 bonus for its role in selling a top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket worth $50,000. The Lottery has sold 35 top-prize winning tickets in the game this year.
