Beltsville Construction Worker Builds Lottery Fortune

Winning $100,000 scratch-off prize is the surprise of his life

A Prince George’s County man visited Lottery headquarters this week to claim a prize that, in the minutes after he won it, had him doubting his sanity. What was unclear to him then became very much so when he handed in the winning scratch-off worth $100,000.

The 21-year-old construction worker reports that he buys instant tickets very infrequently. “When I do play, which is maybe once every couple of weeks, I treat myself. I only buy $30 tickets,” he said.

Early in October, the Beltsville resident found himself at Tina’s Liquor & Deli in Bladensburg to pick up lunch. He picked up a $100,000 winning scratch-off, too.

“I saw that they sold $100,000 Lucky there. That’s my favorite $30 game, and it had been a while since I had bought one,” he said. Scratching his instant ticket off in the car, he immediately saw a match that made him a winner.

“When I looked at the prize under the matching number, I sat there frozen. I knew for sure that I had just won $100,000, but I also knew for sure that there was no way that I could have just won $100,000. I thought I was going crazy.” A friend at his job site came to the rescue and used his phone’s Lottery app to confirm the win. “Even then, I was only about 75% sure.”

The happy player will put his winnings to work right away with a much-needed new car.  The remainder of his big prize will go in the bank.

The good folks at Tina’s Liquor & Deli can also celebrate. The business located at 4901 Annapolis Road in Bladensburg will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.

The $100,000 Lucky game debuted in September 2021 with 65 top prizes available. The $30 ticket still has 37 of its $100,000 prizes to offer. In addition, 23 second-tier winners worth $5,000 remain unclaimed.
