Carroll County Retiree Wins $50,000 Scratch-off Prize

Claims top prize on $50,000 Cash game

A regular visit to the grocery store this past Tuesday turned into a $50,000 windfall for a Carroll County woman. While at the Safeway, the retiree decided to purchase a $50,000 Cash scratch-off and left the store $50,000 richer.

“I usually scratch the whole ticket, but I decided to just scratch the prize check box while I was in the store to see if it was a winner,” said the 69-year-old mother of two. “I knew the prize was more than $600 once I saw the message on the scanner to take the ticket to the Lottery.”

When the winner got to her car, she finished scratching the rest of the instant ticket and saw that it was a $50,000 top-prize winner.

The small-town resident who has told some family and friends of her good fortune, plans to save most of her prize and keep news of it quiet.

Her lucky Lottery retailer, Safeway #0128, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off. The lucky store is located at 151 Walkers Village Way in Walkersville, Frederick County.

The $50,000 Cash scratch-off debuted in late December with 160 top prizes. In addition to its 146 top-prize winning instant tickets still in circulation, the $50,000 Cash game offers more than $1 million unclaimed prizes ranging from $20 to $5,000.
