Gaithersburg Dad Wins Second $50,000 Scratch-off Prize in Two Weeks

A Gaithersburg dad did it again! On May 4 he was at Maryland Lottery headquarters to claim a $50,000 prize after having done the same thing on April 20, a little more than two weeks earlier.

The most recent big win came on the $20 scratch-off game $50,000 Cash, with his April win being on another $20 game, Lucky 777.

“You had me in here two weeks ago,” he said with excitement as he walked into Lottery headquarters wearing a Lottery T-shirt he had received when he claimed previously.

The delivery driver said he made his purchase at a different retailer in Gaithersburg than for his first win, but there’s no arguing with the result.

“I couldn’t believe it. Is this true?” Carlos said to himself after he saw the “autowin” notation on his ticket over a $50,000 prize.

The Montgomery County resident said he plans to continue to invest his winnings.

His first big win was at the Shell station at 501 Quince Orchard Road in Gaithersburg. This time, he tried his luck at Lakeside Beer Wine at 9621 Lost Knife Road in Gaithersburg. Each shop receives a $500 bonus for its sale of a winning ticket.

The winner says he hopes to return to the Lottery headquarters a third time.

“I’m hoping to come back next for the $2 million,” he said with a smile.

The $50,000 Cash game went on sale in December 2022 with 160 top prizes of $50,000. The Gaithersburg dad is the 104th winner to claim a top prize on the game, and another 56 at the $50,000 level are still available, along with tens of thousands of prizes ranging from $20 to $5,000.
