Glen Burnie Woman’s $100,000 Win Causes Courthouse Excitement

Glen Burnie resident Shari Hunt-Caldwell called a family gathering to announce her write $100,000 Holiday Second-Chance Promotion prize.

Another $100,000 up for grabs in Jan. 16 final Holiday Cash second-chance drawing

Shari Hunt-Caldwell, a loyal Holiday scratch-off player, enters her non-winning tickets into My Lottery Rewards. Although she typically checks the winners online after each second-chance drawing, she was busy on Dec. 4 and didn’t get a chance to look. Needless to say, the Glen Burnie resident was shocked when a Lottery representative called to tell her she won $100,000.

“I started screaming at work,” the courthouse employee said. “It was unbelievable ”

Shari told Lottery officials she received some unusual looks from co-workers about her excitement.

Although Shari wasn’t able to keep her win a secret from coworkers, she was able to hide the prize from her family for a few days, including her husband Darryl.

She invited family members over to the house saying she had a big announcement. Darryl was just as curious as everyone else.

“It was a family surprise,” he explained. “We thought there was something wrong,”

Shari had pieces of paper with the $100,000 news written on it for each family member, and instructed each person to open it simultaneously. Darryl said he had trouble opening the paper.

“I had to wait for someone else to open their paper to find out the news,” Darryl said with a laugh. “It was great.”

The 61-year-old winner is no stranger to winning second-chance prizes. In 2023, Shari won club level season tickets for one year through the Ravens promotion.

She still doesn’t know how she will spend her $100,000 prize but is likely to pay off bills and might look into home improvement projects.

“I never had that many zeros in my bank account,” she said smiling.

The final Holiday Second-Chance Promotion drawing will take place on Jan. 16, when one $100,000 and five $5,000 prizes will be awarded.
