Retired federal worker has played their birthdays since their birth
A loyal Bonus Match 5 player was all smiles after claiming the top prize of $50,000 on his favorite game while at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore
“I play Bonus Match 5 every night. I never miss it,” the Aberdeen resident said about the game, which started in Maryland in September 1995. The retired federal worker explained that he was at home, checking the winning numbers to the Jan. 30 drawing on his phone, when he saw his numbers start to match. He added that he couldn’t believe he won $50,000 and plans to use the prize to pay bills.
The Harford County man won the top prize by playing his children’s birthdays for the numbers. “I have been playing their numbers since they were born and now they are adults,” he said.
The big winner bought his $2 ticket at the Aberdeen Shell, which is located at 1026 Middleton Road. The Harford County gas station can also celebrate, as it will receive a $500 Lottery bonus for selling the lucky winning ticket.
This is the third top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket sold in 2025. A Baltimore City man was the first winner of 2025 and another Harford County resident claimed the other prize.
