Powerball Drawing Creates Maryland Millionaire, Two $50,000 Winners

Winning tickets sold in Gaithersburg, Prince Frederick, Upper Marlboro

Although the Powerball  jackpot is still on a roll, lots of lucky Maryland players had a winning Wednesday. The Maryland Lottery is looking for the players who bought a $1 million winning ticket for the Sept. 22 drawing in Upper Marlboro and two $50,000 winning tickets in Gaithersburg and Prince Frederick.

Check your tickets closely. The winning numbers were 20, 40, 47, 55 and 63; the Powerball was 5 and the Power Play multiplier was x3. Maryland had 22,882 winners in the drawing of prizes ranging from $4 to $1 million. Lottery officials encourage all winners to sign the back of their tickets immediately and put them in a safe location.

The $1 million winner matched the first five winning numbers and became Maryland’s fifth second-tier Powerball prize winner of 2021. The two $50,000 winners boosted Maryland’s total of third-tier winners this year to 45.

The sellers of the three big winning tickets were:

  • $1 million — Watkins Park Liquors, 56 Watkins Park Drive, Upper Marlboro (Prince George’s County)
  • $50,000 — ABD Liquors, 110 West Dare’s Beach Road, Prince Frederick (Calvert County)
  • $50,000 — Giant #150, 46 Bureau Drive, Gaithersburg (Montgomery County).

For selling the $1 million winning ticket, Watkins Park Liquors earns a $2,500 bonus from the Lottery.

The Powerball jackpot rolled to $523 million for the Saturday, Sept. 25 drawing, making it the 10th largest jackpot in Powerball history. The cash option is $379 million.

Winners get 182 days from the date of the drawing to claim prizes.  Instructions on claiming prizes in person or by mail are available HERE. Players must redeem prizes larger than $25,000 by mail or at Lottery headquarters in the Montgomery Park Business Center, 1800 Washington Blvd., Suite 330 in Baltimore.
