Playing scratch-offs is mostly an after-thought activity for one Prince George’s County man whose main games are Pick 3 and Pick 4. If there’s anything left of what he’s allotted for lottery play, he’ll usually buy scratch-off tickets. Such was the case recently: he had $10 left, and he used it to buy a single MONOPOLY™ X50 scratch-off and won $100,000.
The Clinton resident bought his ticket at Marlboro Village Exxon at 5111 John Roger Boulevard in Upper Marlboro. He had no special affinity for the game, it was the first one he saw inside the display case.
There was an unfortunate aspect to the win: it was delayed for about two weeks because he set the ticket to aside and forgot about it. When he got around to looking at it, he discovered a match on number 54, which corresponded to a $100,000 prize. Initially he couldn’t believe his eyes, so he looked at it two or three more times, he said Aug. 13 after claiming his prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
The lottery enthusiast, a driver for a ride sharing app, has chosen to keep news of this win under wraps. He plans to use his winnings to invest and buying a new fence for his home.
Marlboro Village Exxon has reason celebrate as the business receives a bonus of $1,000 for selling a top-tier winning scratch-off ticket.
