After researching the odds of winning, a Salisbury man decided to take a chance with a new-to-him draw game on July 22, resulting in a $50,000 pay day.
His usual gambit is to purchase Mega Millions tickets when the jackpot climbs over a $100 million. Instead, however, he took a chance on a Pick 5 ticket using a different set of numbers from his usual combination.
Then he set his ticket aside for about two weeks before returning to check it. He took the ticket to a retailer, scanned it and was pleasantly surprised by his $50,000 discovery.
“That’s cool,” the happy winner calmly said to himself.
He told his story of winning when he claimed the prize Aug. 27 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
The Eastern Shore resident bought his ticket at the 7-Eleven store at 31997 Beaver Run Drive in Salisbury.
A homebuilder with about 30 years in the trade, the winner said he plans to save his money for his retirement account. When he’s not building houses, he enjoys working on his hot rod cars.
The 7-Eleven that sold him the ticket will receive a $500 bonus.
