Temporary Texas Transplant Finds $50,000 Scratch-off Prize

Construction specialist finds big win on Bankroll Buck$ game

A temporary assignment and a work break were all it took to pair a Texas resident with a Maryland Lottery scratch-off prize. The 32-year-old construction specialist scratched off a lucky Bankroll Buck$ instant ticket, revealing a $50,000 second-tier prize.

The Houston, Texas resident, who is calling himself “Lone Star,” told Lottery officials that he often works far from home for months at a time. He came to Maryland in late 2020 for his current job, for example.

“Lone Star” purchased a few Bankroll Buck$ scratch-offs at Royal Farms #241 located at 6202 Annapolis Road in Hyattsville while on a work break. He scratched them off while eating lunch in his truck. The winner said he had to triple-check his final instant ticket when he saw a 5X symbol and revealed a $50,000 prize!

“I had to make sure it wasn’t an April Fools’ (Day) joke,” he said.

The precious scratch-off stayed stashed away in a safe until last week, when the lucky winner presented it at Lottery headquarters. According to the winner, the prize will be just as precious.

“I told myself at the beginning of the year that I plan to do better managing the money that I get and that goes double for my prize winnings. I’m just going to sit on it and save it,” he explained.

The $10 Bankroll Buck$ scratch-off went on sale at Lottery retailers in December featuring prizes from $10 to $100,000. There are three $100,000 prizes and four $50,000 prizes remaining.
