The Week in Winners: With Jackpot Rolling, Powerball Delivers Five Big Prizes

Players across Maryland won nearly $33.2 million during week ending Jan. 2

With the Powerball jackpot growing to historic heights, the game generated a $2 million prize and four prizes of $50,000 last week, topping the Maryland Lottery’s list of big wins.

The $2 million Powerball ticket was sold in downtown Baltimore, and the $50,000 wins came on tickets sold in Abingdon, Annapolis, Hagerstown and Hampstead. With no jackpot winner in the Jan. 3 drawing, the Powerball jackpot rolled to an estimated annuity value of $610 million for the Jan. 5 drawing, making it the seventh-largest in the game’s history. The estimated cash option is $434.2 million.

In all, 20 players across the state won or claimed prizes of $10,000 or more, and the Lottery paid nearly $33.2 million in prizes in the seven days ending Jan. 2.

Winners of prizes larger than $25,000 must redeem their tickets at the Maryland Lottery Claims Center in Baltimore, which is open by appointment only. Prizes of up to $5,000 can be claimed at any of more than 400 Expanded Cashing Authority Program (XCAP) locations. All Maryland Lottery retailers are authorized to cash tickets up to and including $600. More information is available on the How To Claim page of mdlottery.com.
