A Charles County resident is claiming he has a horseshoe in his pocket due to his lucky Lottery streak. The Waldorf man visited Maryland Lottery headquarters July 30 to claim his second $50,000 prize of the year after a Bonus Match 5 ticket turned into a memorable win.
Earlier this year he won a big Lottery second chance prize. But he wasn’t done.
The weekly player has been trying his luck for more than 20 years. While Multi-Match is his favorite game, he occasionally decides to “try his hand” at Bonus Match 5 and scratch-offs, he said after claiming his prize July 30.
That decision paid off in a big way when a recent Bonus Match 5 quick pick ticket matched all five winning numbers to capture the game’s $50,000 top prize.
After the July 17 drawing, he scanned his ticket and got an unusual message: “Winner. See Retailer.”
“As a longtime player, I knew that meant I had won something,” he recalled. “I just didn’t know how much.”
Curious, he asked the retailer to check the ticket. That’s when he got confirmation of the $50,000 win.
Overjoyed, he rushed home to celebrate. So far, he has kept the exciting news mostly private, sharing it only with a few family members.
The winner already has plans for his prize. First on the list is purchasing a new car for his wife and treating her to a vacation. Any remaining winnings will be invested and used to support his family.
He bought the winning Bonus Match 5 ticket at the Dash In at 2007 Smallwood Drive in Waldorf. For selling the top-prize winning ticket, the retailer will receive a $500 bonus, equal to 1 percent of the prize amount.
