Low-Key Kent County Man Quietly Celebrates $50,000 Pick 5 Win

A Kent County man was checking his Pick 5 tickets at a Maryland Lottery retailer and was amazed when he realized he had won $50,000. He didn’t say anything to anyone and left the store.

“I had to keep it to myself. I went home and told my wife,” the winner said Oct. 30 when he claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

He has been a loyal player for the past 20 years but said he plays different numbers every night with the quick pick option. He received the number 36214 for the Oct. 27 drawing and was all smiles after it was drawn.

“I couldn’t believe it came out,” he added.

The retired warehouse worker enjoys bicycle riding with his wife along the northern Eastern Shore.

He plans to use his prize to square his finances.

The retailer that sold the winning ticket was Suds-N-Soda at 1014 Washington Avenue in Chestertown. For selling the ticket, the Kent County retailer receives a $500 bonus.
