Hagerstown Man Scratches His Way to $500,000 on Gifts of Green

A Hagerstown man couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw he won $500,000 on the $20 Gifts of Green scratch-off.

The quality control worker said he watches fellow Lottery players purchase and quickly scan tickets, but he enjoys taking his time and scratching his ticket’s play area.

According to the big winner, he was carefully playing when he noticed he uncovered an instant prize of $500,000.

“I almost fell over when I saw the amount,” the Washington County man said.

He plans to use the half-million-dollar prize to pay off his house.

He said he usually doesn’t purchase high price-point scratch-offs, but he decided to splurge on the $20 game.

“I didn’t see any $10 tickets so I had to try a $20 ticket,” he said.

He bought the top-tier-winning ticket at the AC&T convenience store in Hagerstown, which receives a bonus of $1,000.

The Gifts of Greens is the scratch-off that keeps giving as this is the third top-prize winner of $500,000 to claim while four top prizes remain unclaimed. There are also four of the eight second tier prizes of $25,000 unclaimed, along with prize ranging from $20 to $5,000.
