A White Marsh area man has been working multiple jobs for most of his life and, while he can’t retire on a $50,000 Powerball prize, a big win on the May 20 drawing brings that day closer.

“That’s the plan,” the winner said June 25 when he and his wife claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

Going by the alias “Jack of All Trades” because he’s had two or three “or sometimes four” jobs at a time, he said had been something of a Lottery skeptic until his recent big win.

“I’ve been playing for years and never hit anything big,” he said, adding that when he saw he had matched four of the first five balls drawn plus the Powerball, he asked a clerk to double check.

“He was more excited than me,” the winner said, noting that it wasn’t until the clerk gave him a print-out showing the winning amount that he was convinced.

The husband and wife took their time and checked out the procedures for claiming, made their appointment and ended up at Lottery headquarters a little more than a month after winning. He remembered years ago making deliveries to the Montgomery Ward building in Baltimore, and lady luck brought him back to the same building to claim his prize at lottery headquarters.

As for his plans for the winnings, he said he and his wife have had some discussions, but for now it’s going straight in the bank.

He bought the third-tier winning ticket at the 7-Eleven at 4139 East Joppa Road in Nottingham.

The next Powerball drawing is June 27 with an estimated annuity jackpot of $348 million, and a cash option of $157.5 million.
