Denton Custodian, Baltimore Man Each Win $25,000 on Free Pick 5 Tickets

Two lucky players win on straight bet tickets in May drawings

Maryland has two more beneficiaries of the Lottery’s Try Pick 5 promotion, which runs through June 5. Two lucky players from Denton and Owings Mills just claimed their respective $25,000 prizes after scoring free Pick 5 tickets.

The 60-year-old Denton woman found her Lottery luck at the Denton Shell station located at 1101 Shore Highway in Denton, which is where she normally goes to play Lottery games. She earned a free Pick 5 ticket for the May 26 midday drawing.

Later that day, she sat in her car and checked her ticket using the Lottery app on her smartphone and was pleasantly surprised. “I had to look three times at the ticket,” the happy winner said. The lucky lady currently works as a custodian at a school. She plans to use her winnings to pay off bills.

The second lucky player is a 57-year-old Owings Mills resident who nearly threw his winning ticket in the garbage. The Baltimore County man received his quick-pick ticket for the May 28 evening drawing at New Town Wine & Spirits located at 9740 Groffs Mill Drive in Owings Mills. This is where he usually goes to play Lottery games.

The winner often throws his unchecked tickets in a pile, which he goes through and eventually tosses. This time, before throwing away his old tickets, the player heard from the retailer that a winning Pick 5 ticket was sold at the store. He quickly checked his pile of tickets. Lo and behold, the happy man learned that he had a $25,000 windfall on the free ticket. He plans to use his winnings to pay off bills and help family members.

Denton Shell and New Town Wine & Spirits will each receive a $250 bonus from the Lottery for their roles in awarding $25,000 winning Pick 5 tickets.
