Lottery Luck Shines on Low-Key Calvert County Player

$100,000 CA$H scratch-off delivers $100,000 top-prize win

“I just kept my calm,” said a Southern Maryland scratch-off player, recalling the moments after she confirmed her $100,000 top-prize win on a $100,000 Ca$h instant ticket. Lottery luck shined on the fortunate player last week.

The winner was riding with her daughter last Friday when they stopped at 7-Eleven #41610 in Edgewater for snacks. The daughter, who often purchases pairs of scratch-offs for her mother, bought a soda for herself and two $30 $100,000 Ca$h instant tickets for her mom. The daughter returned to the car, handing the games to her mother, who began scratching them off as they rode down the highway.

“I was taking my time scratching like I normally do and was taken aback when I saw the ‘win’ symbol,” said the Calvert County mom. “So, I scratched a little further and saw one zero and then another zero. $100 is what I thought.”

However, the lucky player was not finished playing the game.

“I saw more and more zeros, which appeared to be $100,000,” she said. “I showed my daughter so she could check for me.”

The daughter, who accompanied her mom to claim the prize, said, “I had to look to see what the ‘win’ symbol meant. Then, we stopped at another store to scan the ticket.”

Sure enough, the grandmother had scratched her way to a $100,000 top-prize win. Thrilled, but keeping their cool, the mother and daughter shared the news with a few family members.

“She’s very low key,” said another daughter, who joined the winner and her sibling in the Lottery Winner’s Circle. “That’s just how she is, she doesn’t get overly excited about things.”

The three women came to Lottery headquarters earlier this week to claim the prize. The lucky winner told Lottery officials that she plans to share some funds with her family and will put the rest of her new fortune in the bank.

The $100,000 Ca$h scratch-off is loaded with prizes, offering 65 $100,000 top prizes when it went on sale in September 2023. There are still 55 top prizes remaining. In addition, the game has 31 $5,000 prizes and others ranging from $30 to $500.

Also celebrating the win is 7-Eleven #41610, located at 3226 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater. The Anne Arundel County retailer receives a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
