Pennsylvania Couple Uses Lucky Method to Win $150,043 Powerball Prize

Adding Power Play tripled the prize in March 30 drawing

A husband and wife from Pennsylvania made a trip into Maryland and went home with a $150,043 prize-winning Powerball ticket.

“I bought the winning ticket and gave it to her,” the husband said, jokingly, as he entered the Lottery Winner’s Circle with his wife.

Although Powerball is available in the Keystone State, the York County couple explained that they like the option of winner anonymity in Maryland. That is not an option in their home state and they are taking full advantage of it as Maryland Powerball winners.

The husband detailed their lucky method for playing Powerball. He purchased 15 drawings for Powerball games at the Street Highs on 4802 Rocks Road in Harford County. He uses this strategy to reduce their number of trips over the Mason-Dixon line, but the part of the method that paid off was adding the Power Play and Double Play options for every drawing.

The couple matched four out of five numbers and the Powerball of 23 in the March 30 drawing. Since they had added the Power Play multiplier, which landed on 3X, the third-tier prize tripled to $150,000. Then, the Pennsylvanians received an additional $43 because their Powerball of 23 was drawn in four other Powerball drawings and in the March 27 Double Play game, which follows the regular drawing and uses the same ticket numbers.

“We buy tickets all the time and it paid off,” said the husband.

They found out they were winners right after the March 30 drawing. Her husband was sleeping but the wife was up late checking out the results on her phone and couldn’t believe her eyes. “I kept looking and I saw that my numbers matched,” she said.

The couple loves gardening and plans to use their winnings for home improvement projects.

The jackpot for Saturday’s drawing is set at an estimated annuity of $98 million with an estimated cash option of $45.8 million. Players who purchase a $2 Powerball ticket now through April 21 have the chance of winning a free $2 Mega Millions ticket, thanks to the Lottery’s Jackpot Reset promotion.
