The Week in Winners: As Powerball Jackpot Hits $1 Billion, Players Across Maryland Score Hefty Prizes

$2.1 million Multi-Match win biggest on a long list of high-tier prizes in past week

The Powerball jackpot has grown to $1 billion for the April 1 drawing, and a player in New Jersey has a Mega Millions ticket worth more than $1 billion, but in the past week 10 players across Maryland won big prizes from the two multi-state jackpot games.

Meanwhile, Maryland’s in-state-only jackpot game, Multi-Match, resulted in the biggest Lottery win of the week when a player in Belcamp hit for $2.1 million.

On Powerball, a player in the Harford County community of Street hit for $150,000, and four others, one each in Essex, Hagerstown, Timonium and Silver Spring, bought tickets worth $50,000 each. As of April 1, only the Timonium Powerball prize remains unclaimed.

Five Maryland Mega Millions players won prizes of $10,000 each in Clarksburg, Cumberland, Mount Rainier, Preston and Silver Spring. Of those, only the Clarksville and Preston prizes were claimed as of April 1.

While the Mega Millions jackpot reset after the New Jersey win and stands at $36 million, the Powerball jackpot has been growing with each drawing since January 1. The $1 billion jackpot for tonight’s drawing carries a cash option of $483.8 million.

In all, 48 Maryland Lottery tickets worth $10,000 or more were purchased or claimed in the week ending March 31, and players won prizes totaled more than $34.1 million in that span.

Winners of prizes larger than $25,000 must redeem their tickets at the Maryland Lottery Claims Center in Baltimore, which is open by appointment only. Prizes of up to $5,000 can be claimed at any of more than 400 Expanded Cashing Authority Program (XCAP) locations. All Maryland Lottery retailers are authorized to redeem tickets up to and including $600. More information is available on the How To Claim page of mdlottery.com.
